I can get everything I need on the Web

Libraries are a key to assisting their clients locate and utilize information in a timely and ethical fashion.

Electronic Reference Services

Today's library user may be a student in a foreign country in an online class section just as easily as being an on-campus face-to-face student.

Library services must grow to adapt to changes, especially those brought about by new technologies. Electronic or digital reference services are a key tool for many library users - either for personal preference reasons or out of necessity, such as distance and time constraints.

Resources

Libraries don't expect students to identify the print materials that should be available in library collections. Just as libraries select print materials for their users, they should also select appropriate databases and websites for their clients.

Internet Search Tools

The amount of information available on the Internet is astounding. With search tools like Google indexing over 8,000,000,000 pages, clients need assistance with using Internet search tools to produce fewer, but more precise search results.

Web Evaluation

Evaluating information is a skill that many library users lack. They don't understand how to evaluate the information they have located and use materials that may be questionable.

Electronic Plagiarism

Electronic databases and Web sites make plagiarism easier then ever before. Some users simply do not understand what plagiarism is, what the ramifications may be, and that it can be detected.

Citing

Merely using information is not enough. Users must learn how to cite the source of the information they are using. The number of citation styles that exist, coupled with citation style idiosyncrasies, can be overwhelming to many users. Librarians need to assist users with selecting appropriate citation styles and citing resources correctly.
